This is the algebra age word problem that read Pol is 10 years younger than greg. In 7 years, he will be 10 years more than one halfas old as greg. Find their age at present. help me solve it.
Let Greg be X and Pol be X - 10 as far as current ages. In 7 years (thats x + 7) he will be 10 years more than 1/2 as old as greg (thats (x - 10 + 10)/2 or x/2). So set them equal..
X and x -10
x + 7 and x - 10 + 7 28 and 25
(x+7)/2 + 10 = x - 3
x + 17 = 2x - 6 ******** Correction 2 * 10 = 20 + 7 = 27 So it should be
x + 27 = 2x - 6
x =33 ---> Which is Greg's age so Pol's is x-10 or 33 -10 = 23
So Pol is 23 and Greg is 33

ReplyDeletewrong solution po. solution is confusing. (x+7)/2 + 10 = x-3 must be x+7+20 = 2x-6. therefore x=33, that is greg's present age. ginamit sa given x is equal to greg's age, why pagdating sa answer ung value nakuha sa x naging age na ni pol?

ReplyDeleteThe solution is correct -- just check the problem and the answers. I said Pol is 23 and Greg is 33 .. In the problem it starts out ... "Pol is 10 years younger than greg..." 33 gregs age minus 23 pols age = 10 - So far so good... Now it says, "In 7 years, he will be 10 years more than one halfas old as greg." Ok in 7 years Pol will be 30 and greg will 40. Half of 40 is 20 and Pol is 30 in 7 years which is 10 years more than half of Greg's age of 40. It checks out.

greg x (x+7+10)/2 <- it says 10 and one half older dan pol.
(x-10)+7 = (x+7+10)/2
x-3 = (x+17)/2 <- multiply both sides by 2
2x - 6 = x+17
2x-x =17+6
x=23
therefore the age of greg now is 23 and the present age of pol is 23-10 =11
this is my solution for that problem. correct me if i'm wrong
its simple. the question is wrong. greg is 23 and paul is 13 so in 7 yrs how would their ages be appropriate for the question.
ReplyDeletePet -- Using your answers Pol 11 and Greg 23... In 7 years Pol will be 18 and Greg will be 30 right? ok Now whats 1/2 of 30 ? its 15. Sorry 18 is not 10 years more than 15(which is half of what Greg will be in 7 years)
